Start with the payment date, amount and workspace recorded for the purchase. A service name can be a useful clue, but verify which workspace owns the billed transaction before collecting documents.

Open the workspace’s billing

Choose the correct workspace from the dropdown at the top of the left pane. From its home page, open Billing in the left menu, as described in Render’s dashboard guide. Current-month usage and invoices for past periods appear separately.

Select the past invoice for the period you need and open the actual document. The current usage total or a screenshot of it does not replace that invoice. If you cannot obtain it, ask someone with billing access to that workspace; the details below will help them locate the purchase.

Check access before changing anything

Render’s permissions table: billing visible to Admin, Developer, Billing; not Contributor or Viewer.

The Billing role is available on Scale plans and higher. On a lower plan, use the existing person with billing access; retrieving an invoice does not require upgrading the plan.

If access is missing, ask the person handling that workspace’s payment for the exact document. Avoid changing plans, payment methods or infrastructure merely to obtain a bill. Your task is retrieval, not modifying how the service runs.

Match the charge to the document

Worked example: workspaces Production and Test both contain a service called api, but you need the company’s September payment for Production. Select Production, open its September invoice in Billing, and compare the customer, period, amount and document number. October usage in Test belongs elsewhere. Hand over the matching document with its number; if it is missing, ask the administrator and keep the item open without changing services or the plan.

Use a focused request when necessary:

Please send the Render billing document for [workspace] for [period], matching [payment date and amount]. I need the past transaction document, not only the current usage total.

Open the retrieved file and confirm it is readable. Save it with workspace, period and document identifier, keeping the contents unchanged. Check for an existing copy, then deliver it to the agreed accounting location.

If the workspace or period remains uncertain, record that specific gap. Keep a document from another workspace separate rather than treating it as a substitute.
