Are you looking for a hosting purchase or reader payments?
Look for the invoice for running your site on Ghost(Pro) in that service's billing area. This is money paid by the publisher to Ghost. Reader subscriptions involve money moving the other way: from readers to the publisher through the connected Stripe account. First establish which payment you need to document.
| Payment direction | Where to start and whom to ask |
|---|---|
| Publisher → Ghost: purchasing Ghost(Pro) | The site owner downloads the invoice in Ghost Admin: open Ghost(Pro), then Billing. |
| Reader → publisher: paid membership | Ask the person with authorised access to the Stripe account connected to the publication. This is a separate request. |
Fictional example: the publisher of the Sever newsletter pays Ghost(Pro) to run the website, while readers pay for membership. To document the hosting purchase, the publisher needs the original invoice from Ghost. That invoice alone does not show how much readers paid. Their payment records require separate attention involving the correct connected Stripe account.
Not every site built on Ghost uses Ghost(Pro). If you do not know the hosting arrangement or have no confirmed payment to this service, first find out who supplies the hosting and who pays for it. Until then, you cannot identify whom to ask for the document.

The site owner downloads the invoice from Billing history
According to the official documentation, only the site owner can access Ghost(Pro) billing. An administrator role alone is insufficient. If you are the owner, follow these steps:
- Sign in to Ghost Admin for the correct site, open Ghost(Pro), then Billing.
- Find the required payment under Billing history.
- Click the arrow icon next to that payment.
- On the following page, select Download invoice and open the downloaded file.
The English labels follow Ghost's documentation. These instructions are based on the public guide, not access to a private account or inspection of a particular invoice.
We recommend comparing the open document with the purchase you are looking for: its connection to the publication, payment date or stated period, amount, currency and recipient. Not all these details may be clear on the document; do not guess missing information.
A plan change can result in prorated charges and credits on the invoice. If the amount differs from your expectation, check these entries and the specific payment first. A difference alone is no reason to choose another invoice.

Cannot see Billing? Ask the existing owner
Each Ghost site has one owner. Being an editor or administrator, or receiving billing emails, does not by itself give access to Ghost(Pro) billing. If you cannot see it, ask the existing owner for the original invoice for the required payment. There is no need to share passwords or transfer site ownership to obtain one document.
Include the publication's name or address and the period or payment you can identify. This template is a message to the site owner, not a request to access their account:
Say when the amount or date is unknown, or omit that sentence. Do not send passwords, Stripe keys, reader lists or newsletter content for this request.
If the correct owner cannot find the invoice either, they should recheck the publication and payment, then contact Ghost support with the necessary purchase details. This guide cannot guarantee retrieval of a document that is not visible in their account.

Invoice details and the contact email serve different purposes
According to the documentation, you can add an address and billing or Tax ID details using Edit beside Invoice details: open Ghost(Pro), then Billing. Changes apply to future invoices, not documents for previous payments. Updating these details will therefore not correct an old invoice.
The default billing contact is the email used to create the Ghost(Pro) account. Under Billing contact, you can set a second address for billing communications. This determines who receives notifications. Receiving those messages alone does not confirm access to Billing or that an invoice is attached. If all you have is a notification, ask the owner for the original document using the steps above.

Keep reader-payment records in a separate request
If you need records of subscriptions paid by readers, you are not looking for another Ghost(Pro) invoice. Verify which Stripe account is connected to the publication and contact the person with authorised access. Name the publication, period and records you need in your request.
This guide does not cover Stripe exports or promise that one file covers payments, refunds, fees and payouts. If you only obtain the hosting invoice, mark reader-payment records as still outstanding. Finding the Ghost invoice does not close that second request.

Hand over the original invoice and explain what it covers
After checking it, hand over the original downloaded document. Add a short note identifying the publication and verified payment it belongs to. If you were looking for several payments, state which documents you have and which are still missing. The recipient can then see the scope without searching again.
For the fictional Sever newsletter, the note could read: “Attached is the Ghost(Pro) invoice for Sever relating to the payment on [verified date], file [filename]. Reader-payment records for [period] are still missing; we have asked [authorised person] for them.” This is a sample handover note, not a real customer case.
Sources and scope
The procedure and access rules come from official Ghost guides checked on 14 October 2026. The check date is not the sources' publication date. We did not access a private Ghost or Stripe account or inspect a specific invoice.
The payment-direction distinction, document checks and message templates are recommendations for finding and handing over records. This guide does not assess tax treatment or whether a particular document is sufficient for your accounts.
