Trace the purchase before looking for the document
An app used on an iPhone may have a subscription bought on the developer’s website. Installing it from Google Play does not establish Google as the biller either. Find the original purchase confirmation and check who processed the payment before searching accounts for a document.
Search your email for the service name around the purchase date. Note the date, amount and purchasing account from the confirmation, then compare these with purchase history. For a renewal, find the payment for the period you need, rather than just the first order.
If the confirmation is missing, an empty history in one account does not identify the biller. Check any other Apple or Google Account you might have used. If the purchase is still missing, ask the service’s support team to help identify who billed it.

A payment entry is not an invoice
Purchase history helps establish where a transaction took place. An order confirmation, payment confirmation, receipt and invoice are different documents. A history entry does not guarantee a downloadable invoice.
Check what the provider actually offers. If you only have a confirmation, label it accordingly when sending it to your accountant and agree what else is needed. Ask whoever took payment about any missing document for that purchase.

Apple purchases: start with the purchasing account
For a purchase billed by Apple, open reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account used to buy it. Find the payment in your history; you can search by amount. Purchase history on your device offers additional filters.
If the item is absent, check your other Apple Accounts. Apple may group several purchases into one bill, so the amount charged can cover more than one item. Match them to the service you are looking for.
If the confirmation shows a purchase outside Apple’s billing system, contact the developer or the original purchase channel. Apple may have no record of that purchase even though you use the app on an iPhone.

Google Play purchases: check the right Google Account
Google Play sends the order confirmation to the Google Account used for the purchase. Check the account named in it, even if you are reading the email in a different account.
On the Google Play website, open the profile menu, find the payments and subscriptions area, then the order history. Match the service, date and amount.
Google Play history does not include every Google payment. Google payments provides a broader view of activity and services; other Google or Google Pay transactions may not appear among Play orders. Use the confirmation to establish whether the purchase was actually through Play.
If you used another billing system in the app, Google Play does not manage the payment or subscription. Ask that provider or developer about the document. Alternative billing depends on the country and app; the phone alone cannot establish availability.

Direct purchases: go to the service that took payment
If the confirmation shows a direct purchase from the service, sign in through your usual trusted route and find the billing or payments area. Use the account under which you bought the subscription.
Document names and download options vary. Look for paperwork for the actual transaction, without assuming every billing area offers a PDF invoice. If you see only a payment, ask the service what document is available and where to get it.
Apple, Google Play and direct website purchases are not the only possibilities. If the confirmation names another provider or leaves the channel unclear, contact the service’s support with the purchase details. Keep the biller marked as unknown until confirmed.
Keep one lookup card so you do not have to start again
Copy the card below for the purchase you are investigating. Enter verified details only and write “unknown” if you have not identified the billing channel. The card helps you find the document; it does not replace it.
Hypothetical example: you use a subscription on an iPhone, but the confirmation shows a website purchase from the service. Record a direct purchase and the website account. Rather than continuing in Apple history, look in the service’s billing area. If it shows only a payment, ask what document is available.
Do not put passwords or full payment card details in the card. A recognisable account label is enough for your own reference. Keep the card with your document notes.
Ask a specific question when the document is missing
Once you know who took payment, contact their support team. Share the purchasing account only through official support; never send passwords or full card details. You can adapt this message:
If the billing channel is still unknown, replace the final question with: “Could you confirm who billed this purchase and whom I should contact for its document?” This resolves the missing detail instead of sending you back through every account.
