Two ways to obtain the invoice
The Contentful organization owner, with the Owner role, can download an invoice copy from the web app through the relevant organization's settings → Billing. Contentful also emails invoices to the organization owner and the billing contact listed in Billing. You therefore have two routes: the owner downloads a copy, or a recipient finds the invoice in their email.
Even Admin does not have invoice access
First establish which organization the subscription belongs to. If you edit content for several businesses, confirm the billed organization rather than relying on the name of the space currently open. Include the organization and its known identifier in your request, if available.
Then choose someone who can help:
Contentful Help Center: organization roles →
| Who is available | What to request |
|---|---|
| The relevant organization's owner, with the Owner role | Ask for an invoice copy from organization settings → Billing. They can also check the email that received it. |
| The billing contact listed in Billing | Ask them to locate the original emailed document. Being an email recipient does not itself grant permission to download invoices from the app. |
| A user with the Admin, Developer or Member role | Ask the organization owner to download it. The permissions matrix does not give these three roles access to Invoices. |
Owner and Admin are different here. An Admin may manage other parts of the organization, but the documentation does not grant invoice access. Editing content is no reason to expect to see invoices either. Rather than proposing a role change for one document, ask the owner for the existing original.
Fictional example: an agency needs a client's invoice
This example is fictional, not an account of work in a customer account. Petra works at an agency and edits content for Studio Javor. She needs the client's September 2026 invoice for a document handover. Her role in the client's organization is Member. Martin is the owner, and the client's finance department is the billing contact.
Petra confirms that she needs the invoice for Studio Javor, not her agency. She asks finance for the original invoice received by email. If they cannot find it, Martin can obtain a copy through Billing in the client's organization settings. Petra does not need access to his account.
The first document Petra receives is readable but covers August. The amount looks familiar, yet the period is wrong. She keeps the request open and specifies September. Once she receives the document for Studio Javor and the required period, she notes its number, if shown, and where she sent it. Matching amounts alone do not establish a match.
A filled-in request you can adapt
This message follows the fictional example. Replace the names, organization and period with your own details. Add an organization identifier, date, amount or currency only if you actually know it.
Subject: Contentful – Studio Javor invoice for September 2026 Hi Martin, I need the original issued Contentful invoice for the Studio Javor organization for September 2026. I have not confirmed the organization identifier; please check that this is the client's organization, not our agency's. My role is Member, so I cannot download the invoice. Could you obtain a copy as Owner through organization settings → Billing? If finance already has it in its inbox as the billing contact, the original document from there is enough. Please check the customer and period. If the invoice is missing or belongs to another business or period, let me know what still needs tracing. I do not need your password or sign-in code. Please send the document through the usual agreed channel for Studio Javor's records. Thanks.
If you write directly to the billing contact, ask for the emailed copy without assuming they have Owner's app permissions. If your role is Admin, replace Member in the example with your actual role: the documented invoice-access outcome is the same.
Check the document before passing it on
This is a practical identity check, not an assessment of tax or legal validity. Compare the following on the readable original:
These fields are not guaranteed to appear on every invoice. Check missing or unclear details with the person finding it. Do not alter the original to resolve a mismatch or present a bank payment as the invoice.
An empty inbox or not seeing Billing does not close the request. Record a specific open item, for example: ‘Studio Javor, Contentful, September 2026: correct invoice still missing; Martin, as Owner, will check for a copy in Billing and report back.’ Add an agreed follow-up date if you have one. The next person can then see what is missing and whom to contact.
The task is complete when you have a readable original matching the organization and period, and know where it was handed over. Otherwise, leave a precise open request for the owner rather than assuming no invoice exists.
