Who bought the subscription, and how?

For Later subscriptions bought on desktop, the official help describes receipt downloads for the primary account owner. For iOS in-app purchases, Later directs you to Apple. Later's team cannot access receipts for those purchases.

First ask the purchaser which channel and account they used. Prepare the payment date or period and any known amount and currency. Mark unknown details as unknown; do not infer the channel or account from them.

Desktop purchase: the primary owner downloads the receipt by date

The primary owner signs in to the Later account holding the subscription. The official instructions describe this route; the English menu labels below follow the documentation.

  1. On a computer, open app.later.com and choose Settings → Subscription.
  2. Go to Payment & Billing History and click Details.
  3. Find the receipt for the required date and click Download.
  4. Open the downloaded file and compare its visible details with the payment you are looking for.

Later calls this document a receipt. Its instructions do not confirm the file format or establish that it is a tax invoice. First check that it matches the payment. This guide does not assess its accounting or tax suitability.

If you are not the primary owner, ask that person for the file. Being able to work in Later does not itself prove you can download receipts. If the owner cannot find it, keep the request open and record the account and date searched.

iOS purchase: use the Apple Account that made the purchase

For an iOS in-app subscription, follow the Apple route. Repeated searches in Later's desktop history do not replace it: Later says it cannot access in-app purchase receipts.

  1. Open reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in to the Apple Account used to buy the subscription.
  2. Look for the item in the purchase list. If you know the amount, Apple also describes searching by amount.
  3. If you cannot find it online, check the history on your iPhone: App Store → photo or initials → Apps & Purchase History → Purchase History.
  4. For an older purchase, change the Last 90 days filter. If you have several Apple Accounts, check whether another one was used.

These steps find a purchase, not necessarily the required document. If you only have a history entry, state, for example: “Purchase found in Apple history; corresponding document still missing.” This guide does not verify a particular Apple document-download button.

Menu labels follow Apple's English documentation. The interface may vary with the system version and region.

Worked example: a team member asks the primary owner for a receipt

This is a fictional illustration, not a customer experience. A small studio needs a Later receipt for a payment dated 1 October 2026. A team member confirms with the colleague who bought the subscription that she purchased it on desktop and is the primary account owner. Her password is not needed.

The team member sends her the account identifier and the date, 1 October. The amount is unknown and explicitly marked as such. The colleague opens Settings → Subscription → Payment & Billing History → Details, selects the dated receipt and downloads it.

The team member opens the file, compares the date with the request and checks the amount and currency. Account, buyer and period are checked only if shown. The amount can be added as a newly found detail, but cannot be described as matched against a previously known payment amount.

If the visible details match the subscription, the original file is forwarded with “Later receipt for the payment of 1 October 2026 attached.” If the colleague finds nothing, the response might be “No receipt found in the confirmed Later account for that date; request remains open.” A missing receipt does not prove no purchase occurred.

Message the person with access to the purchasing account

Send this template to the primary Later account owner or the person who purchased through Apple. Fill in known details only. If the purchase channel is unclear, ask for confirmation first.

Select the text, copy it into an email and fill in the details in square brackets.

If the purchasing account is unknown, identifying who bought the subscription is useful too. The request remains unresolved, but can be passed to the right person.

Before forwarding, check that the document matches the payment

Open the file and compare its date, amount and currency with what you already know. Check product, account, buyer and billing period if shown. Do not invent missing fields or trust the filename alone.

Distinguish a found document, an Apple purchase-history entry and an item still missing. For the latter two, explain what is missing and whom you have asked to investigate. The recipient can then tell whether they have the file or the search must continue.

Sources and scope

The procedures use public official Later and Apple help checked on 17 October 2026. Later's page states an update of 29 March 2023; Apple's page is dated 17 September 2026. No signed-in account test or translated-menu verification was performed.

The fictional example, request template and final document check are editorial recommendations. This guide does not assess tax or accounting suitability.
